The 34-year-old Ricciardo, who has been out of action since the end of last season, joined AlphaTauri in July, replacing the unsuccessful Dutchman Nyck de Vries. However, in training for the Dutch Grand Prix in August, the eight-time Grand Prix winner broke his left arm and Lawson stepped in for him in the cockpit.
Twenty-three-year-old Cunoda has been racing for AlphaTauri since 2021 and is still waiting for his first podium finish. He is currently ranked 17th in the championship standings.
New Zealander Lawson, who is two years his junior, finished ninth in Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix while standing in for the injured Ricciardo to score the first Formula 1 points of his career.
