Daniel Ricardo “A reserve driver is better than a Haas transfer to F1″[F1-Gate.com]

Daniel Ricciardo confirmed Gunther Steiner’s suspicions of not wanting to continue his F1 career with the Haas F1 team in 2023.

Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner told Austin that he doesn’t understand why Danieli Ricciardo would seem to prefer a reserve spot on the top squad next year to a full-time spot in an F1 race in midfield.

At the moment Daniel Ricciardo is not even in midfield. Ricciardo finished 16th at the US F1 Grand Prix, while teammate Lando Norris took the checkered flag in 6th.

“Honestly, the pace is so far away that we simply can’t rely on it, push it or give it the time. It remains a mystery to have such a large margin again,” said Daniel Ricciardo.

“When you think it won’t get worse, it gets worse. I don’t even know how I’m going to go on. Pain is an understatement.”

Daniel Ricciardo was thought to be Mercedes’ official reserve next year, but now there are rumors that he is signing up for a similar role at Red Bull.

“I don’t know. Now it’s just a rumor,” said Daniel Ricciardo when asked about his return to Red Bull.

“Are you talking? Yes. But we haven’t put pen to paper or done anything like that yet.”

Daniel Ricciardo also turned down an offer from McLaren CEO Zak Brown to join IndyCar.

“I don’t want to do too many ovals,” said Daniel Ricciardo.

“Ten years ago I would have said yes, but to be honest I’m not good at ovals.”

But strangely, Daniel Ricciardo also said ‘no’ to the Haas F1 team.

“Given what we can achieve now, it would be better to aim for other goals,” insisted Daniel Ricciardo.

“I think you should stick to your plan.”

2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button admits that Daniel Ricciardo’s situation is not only “sad” but also “strange”.

“It’s tough,” Jenson Button told Sky UK.

“I don’t think he’s out. Daniel always wants to fight, but he’s not doing well.”

Jenson Button said it’s just a “strange” move for Daniel Ricciardo, 33, an eight-time Grand Prix winner, on plans to become an F1 reserve driver.

“To me it’s just weird. I don’t think it’s going to work,” said Jenson Button.

“But it was clearly his choice.”

“For me, I would prefer him to race in Formula 1 for a team at the back of the grid, so maybe he can challenge himself again and drive higher on the grid. no.

“But as a third driver, people will only remember his last race of the year.”
