Los Angeles (AP) – British Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya (33, “Judas and the Black Messiah”, “Get Out”) is not in the sequel to the science fiction superhero film “Black Panther”. US trade journals reported that he would not slip back into the role of tribal chief W’Kabi. Kaluuya informed the film portal “Rotten Tomatoes” that he could not play in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” due to scheduling reasons for filming the new horror film “Nope”.
In the blockbuster film «Black Panther» (2018) Kaluuya had a prominent role as W`Kabi. He played the best friend and later rival of the king’s son T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) in the fictional African state of Wakanda.
Boseman died of cancer in 2020, but director Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studio are sticking with a sequel featuring many of the actors from the original film. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wrapped up filming in March and is slated for a November release. Stars like Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett are back on board from the previous cast.
Kaluuya, who won the 2021 Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for “Judas and the Black Messiah”, is now returning to the cinema in the horror film “Nope” by director Jordan Peele (“Get Out”). The horror film about extraterrestrial beings is scheduled to start in Germany in mid-August.
