Daniel Craig is modesty in person and as a celebrity does not really feel comfortable. While his last Bond film is in the post-production phase, the smart Brit is tinkering with his future. In his new thriller “Knives Out”, no bang effects are used – it is more a return to Craig’s roots than a stage actor.
Does your role resemble James Bond? Daniel Craig: No. My character Benoit Blanc is more the Hercule Poirot from an Agatha Christie thriller.
Is it a coincidence that Ana de Armas is in this film and is also the next bond girl? Yes and no. When we were working on the Bond film, director Cary Fukunaga came up to me and asked if I knew Ana. Since he wanted her for Bond. Ana and I had just turned “Knives Out” and it was obvious that I was voting for her.
The film is about family conflicts. How do you avoid them? The best solution is to talk about it when there is a fight going on. This is the only way to solve them. You have to be able to look each other in the eye, then it will work.
They always come across very cool and relaxed. What drives you out of your skin? When people deliver each other to the knife, I run out of my skin. I also find injustice bad.

In the film, the siblings fight over their father’s legacy. Do you have an older sister, was there any friction at home? I think we have all experienced that. In general, I think that if you leave a legacy to your family, there is usually Zoff. Even if it’s only about small sums. Who dies as a rich person has failed!
What do you mean? It is simply tasteless to leave a legacy. Everyone should give away their property before they die. You shouldn’t leave anything when you leave this world. This prevents unnecessary conflict.
What do you do first when you are back at the end of a long film shoot? Vacation! I prefer to lie down on the beach somewhere and do nothing. I finished the Bond movie a few weeks ago. That was on a Friday night. I was already basking in the sun on Monday.

Is the Bond chapter really closed for you? Yes. In the future someone else has to do it.
007 has been a big part of your professional life. What’s next on your wish list? I have no wishes. I am fortunate to be offered different roles. My only wish is to work with good and nice people.
Are you interested in directing yourself? For God’s sake, no! I want to come home after work, eat something and then go to bed. If you are a director, you have to talk to the producers, screenwriters and who knows who else after the shooting until three in the morning. Then you barely manage to get a hat and then go straight back to the set. No thanks!
They made the cool bond a man with feelings. Are you also more sensitive in your private life? I am terribly sensitive (Laughs), Even with an emotionally made TV advertisement I sometimes tear a tear. I am particularly moved when people do good to others.
Does the attitude to life change with age? What do you mean?

Do you care more today, for example, which world we leave to our children? Nobody can change the world alone. At most James Bond (Laughs), Seriously: I am already trying to form a correct opinion on important things and to get involved. But fighting for climate protection alone doesn’t do much good. We have to do that in the community. In the end, however, it is still up to governments to take action against major problems such as climate change.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Daniel Craig (51) was born in Chester, England, and discovered his love of acting thanks to his artist stepfather Max Blond and his mother, art educator Olivia Williams. Director-Warden John G. Avildsen (“Rocky”) first brought him to the screen in 1992 in the apartheid drama “In the Shine of the Sun”. Connoisseurs treat his portrayal of a Mossad agent in Steven Spielberg’s “Munich” from 2005 as the best appearance. In the same year, Craig’s career experienced the decisive turning point when it was presented as the new 007. A role that he will take on for the fifth and last time in April 2020 in “No Time to Die”. His current film, the comedic thriller “Knives Out”, starts on January 2nd. Craig has been married to Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz (49) since 2011. Her daughter was born in 2018.
