It’s a real wave of denunciations that has taken place in the hockey world since yesterday. With in particular the accusations of Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner against Alain Vigneault which surfaced late yesterday evening. Lehner is known for his frankness and his honesty, and especially that he does not go four ways to express his opinion on what pleases him and what does not like him. In her accusations, it is particularly a question of excessive use of very strong drugs to help her recovery, even if it means impacting all other spheres of her life and making her miserable, only to come back faster from her injury.

Following these allegations, Carcillo, another player also known for his honesty about his career in the NHL and the difficulties he encountered, launched another real bomb on social networks by posting a series of Tweets which aimed to accuse the Chicago Blackhawks. The accusations take us back to 2013, when Carcillo and a certain Steve Montador, who died on February 15, 2015, played together in the Hawks’ organization. Montador had played in the NHL the year before, but played in the American League that year following a terrible story.

Steve Montador was a tough guy. He is not a player who is illustrated not by his talent but by his robustness and his ease in dropping the gloves. In total in his career, he will have totaled 19 concussions, including 4 in 12 weeks. However, during his 19th concussion, the Hawks couldn’t get Montador through protocol. He was failing the tests but we wanted him to come back to the game as quickly as possible. Montador was eventually sought outside help from the organization to treat his concussion. It would be the same treatment that Sidney Crosby received in 2011, and which had worked brilliantly. Carcillo recounts that in a conversation he had with Montador, he recalled that his former teammate was crying bitterly because he knew that the outside help he had been sought was going to bring him in trouble with the blackhawks

So he came back after 2 weeks of treatment, and had to pass the test that the Blackhawks gave to players returning from a concussion. After pulling it off, the Blackhawks immediately relegated him to the American League. According to Carcillo, it wasn’t because there was no room for him that year, but because he had been sought for help outside of the Hawks’ medical team. , to take care of oneself.

Steve Montador passed away on February 15, 2015. Montador suffered from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a degenerative disease of the brain that is primarily caused by concussions. Carcillo mentions that this episode was a black episode in his friend’s shortened life.
