Cross-country skiing This year’s “Engadiner” took place under difficult conditions. Due to unfavorable ice formation, mixed with extreme snowfall in the last few days, the start to Silvaplana had to be brought forward. Due to the intense snowfall and the changing wind, it was a “tough affair”. Various runners from the local ISW-Sports roller ski club also took on the special challenge.

Great placement

The local hero Daniel Bietenhader from Wiesendangen achieved a strong 240th place. The protégé of Winterthur cross-country skiing coach Peter Decurtins ran a solid race. Dominic Schneeberger ranked 1,722nd out of over eight thousand classified men. A week earlier, Tanja Leubin, co-initiator of the roller ski club, ran her first “Engadin women’s run” and also placed quite well, around a quarter of an hour behind the fourteen-time world champion Therese Johaug (Norway). The 83-year-old Roman Decurtins, father of Peter Decurtins, and the only one who had run all the marathons on the original route, fell victim to the terrible conditions. He had to give up in La Punt, half frozen. In the future, the cross-country skiing fanatic only wants to complete the half marathon with classic skis.
