Actors well established in their popularity who afford the luxury of becoming singers, it’s common, it’s even always. For the best or for the worst. Admittedly, Ugolin had already taken the plunge quite a while ago, for 45s a priori without scenes or tomorrows. He who had a time Guy Béart for father-in-law loves the song, we do not doubt it. And, on the strength of his popularity, he offers himself the luxury of being a singer, a real one, one who even tours.
Here he is headlining the Jean-Ferrat Festival, nevertheless beaten in the ratings by the Fatals Picards of the day before. For lack of knowing the singer, we came to see the actor, to immortalize him in image on his mobile phone.
So, is Auteuil a singer? Yes. He has songs for him – his own -, shared emotions that draw on his intimate life, in a life course that passes through Algiers, Avignon, Paris, Saigon. He found himself an elegant composer and accomplice in Gaëtan Roussel, that of Louise Attaque. The song being somewhat the white pebbles of P’tit Poucet, Auteuil finds places of life, regrets and filiations, wounds too: “Small cuts, small scratches / Simple scratches / Make many hearts bleed”. And memories, his own like others borrowed from his imagination. It’s casually a very pleasant repertoire with a few songs that dominate the whole (including the cover of Apollinaire’s Pont Mirabeau), often thanks to the effective melodies. “What did you do with your days / What did you do with your nights / What did you do with love? / What have you done with your life? … »
Well, Auteuil may well be a great professional, no one will doubt it, the job of an actor is not quite that of a singer and, if he has everything going for him, in particular good musicians and a chorister (Julie ) who are for a lot in our positive appreciation, he lacks the rocker-crooner experience. It sucks a little: if his age and his cinematographic agenda allow him, he can earn in the performing arts… by working a lot. Because it’s far from bad. In this it’s a good surprise for us who came (I’m betting on it) to see Manon des Sources’ Ugolin, La Reine Margot’s Henri de Navarre, Le Bossu’s Largardère, Leo Vrinks from 36 quai des goldsmiths… No, it is indeed the Auteuil of the song which is under our eyes, which certainly does not have the stature of Montand or Reggiani of anthology, but does not have any evil, in this song which has its napkin ring in the media, to surpass many that I will have the courage not to name.
Even if it’s not necessarily the concert that you will remember for an eternity, admit that, like me, you enjoyed attending it.
