Dani Olmo will miss Barça’s Champions League debut and will be out for a month

Dani Olmo has gone from touching the sky in his start with Barça to knowing the dark side. The Blaugrana attacking midfielder will miss Barça’s debut on Thursday in the Champions League and will be out for around a month, “between four and five weeks”, according to FC Barcelona. The player from Terrassa suffers from an injury to the femoral biceps of his right leg, which occurred in yesterday’s match in Girona (1-4) and which forced him to be substituted in the 61st minute.

The midfielder underwent tests today at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper to determine the exact extent of his injury. According to this newspaper, the estimates on the recovery time are longer than initially anticipated and he will be out for a month.

In addition to being ruled out for Thursday’s game in Monaco, Olmo is expected to miss five more matches: Villarreal on Sunday, Getafe, Osasuna, Young Boys in the Champions League and Alavés on October 6.

The international break, on the weekend of 11-13 October, would mark the month of recovery, so if the process is optimal, Olmo could be back for the clash against Sevilla in Montjuïc on 20 October.

Numerous casualties

Olmo’s injury adds to the absences of Fermín, Gavi and De Jong in the midfield

The injury to Olmo, who was one of the key players in Flick’s starting eleven, is extremely inopportune for Barça and a serious setback for the German coach. The player from Terrassa, one of the main additions to the squad, was being one of the most decisive players. Not only for having contributed three goals in three games, but also for the new air he has given to the game, with great freshness, dynamism, speed and pressure. His absence further complicates the formation of the midfield, due to the injuries in the wide area that the team is suffering from.

The German coach is currently without Fermin Lopez, Gavi and De Jong. That is why Flick’s options are reduced to two: Ferran Torres and Pablo Torre. Marc Casadó and Pedri have a practically fixed place in the midfield structure, so a third element would be missing in Olmo’s position.
