Dani Fernandez speaks out about the music industry competition and streaming platform value

MADRID, 19 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The singer Dani Fernandezwho presents a new single ‘Everything changes’has lamented the “competition” that exists in the music industry, pending reproductions and that “in the end it makes one sick of numbers, likes and exposure“.

In this sense, Fernández has recognized in an interview with Europa Press that the music industry works like “a restaurant, that if people don’t come, you won’t be able to eat at the end of the month.” “Of course you depend on the numbers because, in the end, all this has always been a competition“, has added.

However, he believes that music “shouldn’t be that” because it can “drive you crazy.” “The quality goes down if you are more concerned about making a riff that you like, in the end you are not being yourself. I try to do things that appeal to as many people as possible, but to be honest with myself, I’m the one who has to defend it later at a concert.“explains the artist.

Fernández has presented this single, which will be part of his third album, ‘The pack’and which he publishes after a break after his last tour in Madrid’s Plaza de la Luna, “locked” in a stage that simulates being a glass box.

In any case, the former member of the boy band ‘Auryn’ assures that he has a “good relationship with numbers” and on several occasions he emphasizes that he delegates these issues to his team, who “know when to tell him things”, which is why he presumes of “tranquility” and “peace of mind.” Even so, During the interview he points out that he can see “how many people are listening to him at that exact moment.”“.

In relation to reproductions and in view of the new request made by the European Parliament on January 17 to guarantee fair compensation to artists on streaming music platforms, Dani Fernández asks that “the platforms value the work around the artists”.

People have to know that making a song involves much more than they think.. When people press ‘play’ on some platform, and for them it is zero euros, they have to know that thousands of euros have been invested in that song: people playing the drums, producing, mixing, mastering… That’s worth a lot of money. “I ask the platforms to value that, to know that artists, apart from looking, of course, for our money, we have many people around us who also have to make a living from that,” reflects the artist.

For this reason, the ‘Bailemos’ singer assures that he trusts “the people who are in charge” to be able to find a short-term solution, but he does not stop asking a question: “How are the rentals here in Madrid? The Airbnbs , they are very high… You have to reflect a little on the value of things and what these people offer.”

‘EVERYTHING CHANGES’

To present his new single, Dani Fernández has gone up on a stage with plastic walls, which sought to simulate a glass box, trying to show the exposure to which he is subjected, his fears and the prejudices that people have about him before to know him, a theme that will be central to the album ‘La Jauría’.

“It is happening to us more and more, especially with the exposure that each of us has on our social networks, in our lives. And it has happened to me many times. It’s one of the things that hurts me the most, because my private life, since I finished with my group (‘Auryn’), is something that I was clear that I wanted to protect so that this wouldn’t happen to me. “I could never understand how someone could try to hurt with words,” the artist says.

During the interview, Dani Fernández refers several times to how loved he feels by his audience. “On a musical level, prejudices do not affect me, I am lucky to have people who love me, who has supported me from minute one and who sell out the concerts. The only thing I can do is continue making music,” says the artist.

For this reason, in his new work he “looks for a new sound”, because, although he has never gotten along well with the term “evolve”, in his third album “he wanted to get out of his comfort zone.”

More than ever I am going to deal with prejudices, I am not going to think about what styles have gone out of fashion, and what styles have not, I am going to try to do what I want, literally“explains the artist in relation to that sound that he will bring to his album, in which synthesizers “have been used more than ever.”

The album ‘La Jauría’, produced by Paco Salazar, will be published in autumn and during the interview the artist explains what styles can be heard. “I like to go a lot more to rock, those songs are going to be there, but there are also going to be songs that are more pop-oriented and some that are more romps.”“says Fernández.

Despite releasing the single after a break of a few months, he does not believe that this will “penalize” him, but he is aware that the music industry requires a rhythm “that is difficult to maintain.”

“These times of digital music mean that there are many more artists, so you have to be in continuous learning and evolution, working more than ever. With how exhausting touring is, making an album, before you could even afford to be able to to spend a year at home quietly, but not now. The truth is that I couldn’t rest for a year at home because the walls are falling on me, but it is true that with calm you can come up with some songs that now you practically don’t have time to do, because you don’t have that time to dedicate to them.“, analyzes the artist.

Thus, he regretted that “everything goes so fast” because, in his opinion, the quality of the songs is lower. “I wish I could have a little more time to make better songs so I could be a better artist, but what happens with music today is pretty fucked up.“, sentence.
