MADRID, 5 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal described this Monday as “a shame” the departure of players who “have marked an era” such as striker Karim Benzema and midfielder Marco Asensio, and, with a view to replacing the Frenchman, made it clear that no candidate who manages the club “is going to be bad”.
“It’s a shame, they are players who have marked an era, great friends, great teammates, so I wish them the best of luck and I’m sure they’ll do very well, and we’ll strengthen the squad between now and next season and as the coach said to create a very competitive team that fights for everything”, warned Carvajal to the media after attending the XII Charity Padel Tournament against breast cancer organized by the Menorca Clinic Foundation.
The one from Leganés acknowledged that it is “somewhat complicated” to replace players like Benzema or Asensio, but that this is the club’s job. “For us they have been very important and hopefully those who come can get closer to their level,” he said.
In this sense, he preferred not to comment too much on possible substitutes for French such as the German Kai Havertz or the English Harry Kane. “Havertz is a great player, but I don’t usually talk about players who aren’t on my team. I’m sure that none of Real Madrid’s list of candidates will be bad,” he warned.
“We all know Harry Kane, the England captain, a great striker. The players who come are sure to help us a lot and they will do a great job,” he added about the Tottenham striker. “What I do know is that before I was there, and in the future, Real Madrid is Real Madrid and it will always be there,” he remarked.
The international soccer player recalled that “all clubs go through changes from generation to generation.” “We have very young people who have arrived and who are pressing and asking for minutes. In the end, it is the law of life that the most veterans give way to those youngest. We have to rebuild a bit, there are players who can reinforce us and hopefully we will give in the key in our players so that we can get titles”, he stressed.
“I think it’s been a good season, the only thorn is not having competed much more in the League, where I think we disconnected too soon after the World Cup and it cost us a lot. We’ve stayed one ‘little step’ away from a new Champions League final , we have achieved the Copa del Rey, the Mundialito, the European Super Cup, the general balance is good”, he expressed after the end of the campaign.
Asked about one of those who is going to arrive, such as full-back Fran García, who returns to the club after passing through Rayo Vallecano, Carvajal admitted that he is “a great full-back and a young boy.” “I’ll try to help him as much as he can. He’s something similar to my case, he left and has come back, I’m sure he’s going to help us a lot. He’s a very powerful player,” he explained.
Finally, the Real Madrid player sent a message of support to Sergio Rico, who is still in serious condition after an accident on May 28. “Let’s hope that he can recover as soon as possible and I want to send a big hug to all his family and his friends, who will surely be in a difficult moment,” he remarked.
