Dani Alves, 38, was arrested and questioned on Friday. The case is related to a possible sexual attack in one of Barcelona’s nightclubs in December. The footballer denied the charges, but after hearing the injured party and witnesses, the court decided to keep Alves in custody without bail. Immediately after the incident, the victim contacted the night club’s security, who then contacted the police.
Alves left Barcelona in the summer and signed a one-year contract with Mexican club Mexico City Pumas. After the football player was arrested, the club announced the termination of the contract. “We will not turn a blind eye to actions that go against the spirit and values of our club. One person’s behavior must not tarnish our philosophy, which has been an example to others throughout the club’s existence,” said Pumas sporting director Leopoldo Silva.
The right-back was included in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup. He came on as a substitute against South Korea and played 27 minutes, but played the full 90 minutes against Cameroon. He thus became the oldest Brazilian to play in the World Cup.
