Former Barcelona star and Brazilian national team player Dani Alves, 40, has been in custody for a long time on suspicion of raping a woman in a toilet at a nightclub in Barcelona on December 31, 2022.
At the beginning of February, the trial took place, and then the prosecutor requested a nine-year prison sentence for the ex-star, while the woman’s legal representatives wanted to see a sentence of twelve years, while the defense requested an acquittal. The prosecutor also demanded that Alves pay damages of 150,000 euros, equivalent to 1.6 million Swedish kronor.
Word was against word during the trial. The woman claimed she willingly went into a restroom with Alves, but then was not allowed to go. She also claimed that she was beaten, insulted and forced into sex. Alves, in turn, denied the woman’s account, saying that it was consent between the parties.
Now the verdict is announced – Alves is sentenced to four and a half years in prison, reports several Spanish media. Furthermore, he is also ordered to pay 150,000 euros, corresponding to 1.6 million Swedish kronor, in damages. He also receives a nine-and-a-half-year restraining order, as well as five years of supervised release.
Over the years, Alves has played 408 games with Barcelona, 246 games with Sevilla, 73 games with Paris Saint-Germain and 33 games with Juventus. He last played with Mexican UNAM Pumas until the end of January last year.
The 40-year-old has also made 126 A international matches with Brazil.
