These conditions are included in the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Dr. Evan Goldstein, DO, a proctologist says that a person is still at risk of contracting HIV through oral sex.
“Given it’s a bodily fluid, it could be a risk of contaminated STIs,” says Dr. Evan was reported by Men’s Health, Friday (17/9/2021).
“STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HPV and HIV are such risks. There is still a risk of contracting HIV through oral sex, although the risk is lower than penetrative sex,” he continued.

Research has shown it is more difficult to get HIV than oral sex but not impossible. Sperm are also known to carry HPV. But HPV was not detected in the sperm when tested. Some types of this virus can cause throat cancer.
But STI risk isn’t specifically about swallowing sperm. Dr. Justin Lehmiller, Ph.D., a researcher at the Kinsey Institute explains that the risk comes from ejaculating in the mouth so it’s important to use condoms during sex.
“It doesn’t matter whether you swallow the semen or spit it out. The risk comes from ejaculating in your mouth,” explains Dr. Lehmiller.
“It is quite clear that as long as the male partner is not infected and the female partner is not allergic to sperm, it is unlikely that ingesting sperm will have a negative effect on one’s health,” concluded Dr. Lehmiller.
