According to young doctor Auke de Jong, fungi have been considered relatively harmless for too long, which is why doctors now have difficulty recognizing them. With a growing number of physically vulnerable people – the traditional target group of fungi – this causes a number of problems worldwide. Fortunately, there is De Jong, who in his PhD research demonstrates the dangers of recently emerged fungi and also offers tools to improve both diagnosis and treatment.
