Dangers of Body Shaving: Toxicologist Warns of Risks and How to Safely Remove Unwanted Hair

Body shaving is a common practice to get rid of unwanted hair, but it is important to remember that it can come with some risks if precautions are not taken. Toxicologist Mikhail Kutushov tells more.

What are the dangers of shaving your body?

First of all, ingrown hair is one of the most common problems that occurs due to hair growing inside the skin. This can cause swelling, redness and itching. Next comes folliculitis, an inflammatory process in the hair follicles caused by a bacterial or fungal infection. It appears in the form of red pimples or pustules. Contact dermatitis is an allergic reaction to components of shaving products or razor products; symptoms include redness, itching, peeling and rash.

Other risks of trimming include cuts and scrapes, especially in the intimate area, which can lead to infection. Deep cuts also occur, causing heavy bleeding that requires medical attention.

Shaving causes hyperpigmentation (dark spots on the skin) that remain after irritation or inflammation has healed. It also stimulates the sweat glands, which leads to more sweating and an unpleasant smell. Frequent shaving leads to stiffness and thickening of hair follicles.

How to prepare your skin for shaving

  • Take a warm shower or bath. Warm water softens the hair and opens the pores, making shaving easier;
  • Cleanse your skin: Use a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and sebum;
  • Regular exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hairs.

How to clean your body properly

For safe shaving you should use a sharp razor: A dull blade increases the risk of cuts and irritation. During the process, apply shaving cream or gel to your skin to ensure that the razor shines and to protect your skin from irritation. Of necessity wash the razor after each stroke. This prevents the scales from sticking and reduces the risk of infection. Also, don’t put too much pressure on the razor: this will lead to deep cuts and bleeding.

Shake your body in the right direction – in terms of hair growth. As a rule, these are trends top down. If you shave your body against hair growth, skin irritation is probably the least of the consequences. For a less attractive shave, you can use an electric razor or consider other methods of body hair removal. This can be laser hair removal or wax, sugar. These techniques will help reduce the need for frequent shaving and skin irritation. Proper shaving and skin care will help you avoid problems and keep your skin healthy and beautiful.
