Dangerous weather in four voivodeships. IMWM warns

IMWM issued warnings about strong winds in the north of the country. Gusts may reach speeds of up to 85 km/h. It will rain heavily in the south. First and lowest level alerts apply. Check where it will be dangerous.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued the first meteorological warnings on a three-level, increasing scale.

First degree IMWM warnings – strong wind

The lowest level alerts apply in the following voivodeships:

  • Pomeranianin the following counties: Puck, Wejherowo, Lębork, where warnings will be valid until 15 on Friday;
  • West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the counties: Gryfice, Słupsk, Słupsk, Kamieński, Kołobrzeg, Koszalin, Sławieński, Koszalin, where alarms will be valid until 15 on Friday.

Strong winds with an average speed of up to 55 km/h and gusts of up to 80 km/h are forecast there, from the west and south-west.

First degree IMWM warnings – heavy rainfall

In addition, yellow alerts for downpours are in force in the south of the country. They can be expected in the following voivodeships:

  • Lesser Polandin the following counties: Tatra, Nowy Targ, Nowy Sącz, Nowy Sącz, Gorlice;
  • Podkarpackie, in the following counties: Jasło, Krosno, Krosno, Brzozów, Sanok, Bieszczady, Lesko, Przemyśl, Przemyśl.

Moderate and sometimes heavy rainfall is forecast there. The amount of rainfall during the warning period, i.e. from 11 p.m. on Thursday to 11 a.m. on Friday, may reach up to 30 liters of water per square meter, locally up to 40 l/sq m.

What is a first degree meteorological warning?

According to the IMWM definition, a first-degree warning provides for conditions conducive to the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material losses and pose a threat to health and life. Conducting business in conditions of exposure to these factors is difficult and dangerous. Expect difficulties resulting from carrying out activities in the hazardous area, including delays caused by road traffic, disruptions to outdoor events or the possibility of their cancellation. Caution is recommended, the need to follow messages and developments in the weather situation.
