In an interview with Lebanon Debate, he pointed out that “there is always a fear that matters will slide into dangerous possibilities, because all field data on the ground in the south indicate that the effects of Resolution 1701 have ended, and all of this necessitates the election of a president of the republic in the event that it slides into war or in… “If we go to certain negotiations.”

Representative Skaf says: “Unfortunately, the visit of the French envoy was negative, and I believe that the expected visit of the Qatari envoy is to complete the tasks of the five-member committee, and as we know there is coordination between the five-member countries on a unified position with regard to electing a president of the republic, but the question remains: how will the political parties, especially the Christian ones, be persuaded to go To the third option that Le Drian proposed during his last visit, and this is not clear at the moment.”

He touches on the file of the army commander and Bkerke’s position on that, stressing that “Bkerke will not accept any leap over the position of army commander, which today has become closely linked to the election of a president of the republic, and as we know that the leadership of the army is the third position threatened by vacancy after the presidency of the republic and the governorship of the Bank of Lebanon, but This position in particular constitutes a sensitivity for Bkerke because this position is occupied by the highest-ranking Maronite officer, and therefore Bkerke today will not accept the appointment, which it also considers to harm the position of the Presidency of the Republic in terms of indifference to the position of the Presidency of the Republic and its sectarian component.”

Skaff points out that “there is a great and serious relationship between the extension of the army commander’s term and the completion of the presidential term, as he points out that Presidents Berri and Mikati are keen on leading the army and not creating a vacuum in the military institution, and they are also keen on keeping up with Bkerke and Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai in this matter.” .
