Fake AI videos like the one from Scholz, who wants to ban the AfD, are going around. Germany is looking for a solution.
False information produced using deepfakes has an influence on public opinion, according to government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit. This is evident in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and in the Middle East conflict. Deepfakes are intended to spread false information and stir up uncertainty – it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between real and fake.
Scholz for AfD ban? Not a real video, but FAKE!
A video from Chancellor Olaf Scholz is currently making the rounds. In this he talks about the ban on the AfD. The video is not reallybut a deepfake.
Germany: Working group against deepfakes
Because of videos like these, the federal government wants to change something. A working group is dealing with the development and dangers of fake news. Among other things, they also check whether verification for real videos would be possible. For example in the form of a watermark. Hebestreit hopes that the working group will have its first results by summer.
This is what deepfakes can cause in everyday life:
The fake photos of the girls were created by classmates and acquaintances and then sent to the school.
