The National Meteorological Service (NSM) of Romania announced that the dangerous cyclone that caused heavy damage and claimed lives in Slovenia will also reach Romania.

The weather is expected to change radically in the coming week, with temperatures dropping significantly, reports Eventul Ziley.

The director of the meteorological service, Elena Mateescu, said that temperatures have already dropped significantly after the heat wave of the last weeks.

For her part, Roxana Bojariu, a meteorologist at the NSM, said that the expected strong storms in the coming days could cause tornadoes.

“The month of August 2023 is off to a stormy start, with many instabilities, even with very large contrasts between regions. Something atypical for the traditionally calmest month of the year.

We have these instabilities because cold and warm air collide (…) and the greater the contrast, the more severe the manifestations: strengthening of winds, episodes of hail, lightning. “Extreme cases are those with storms that develop into tornadoes,” the meteorologist pointed out.

A powerful storm that hit Slovenia over the weekend caused catastrophic flooding that killed at least six people and forced thousands of citizens to be evacuated from their homes in northwestern and central Slovenia.

Material damage is expected to reach several billion euros, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob said.
