Key words for the coming week are sleet, snow, gray weather and sun – a bit of most things.
In the north of the country it will be freezing cold, and the meteorologists have sent out a warning for polar low pressure. The danger warning applies to Friday:
– Then a polar low pressure is approaching which gives wind and a lot of snow in the far south of Troms and north of Nordland. During Friday, it can be 20-40 cm locally, the Meteorological Institute writes on Twitter.
We have sent out a danger warning for polar low pressure ⚠️ ???? Thursday night, the polar low pressure will be in the sea west of Finnmark. It will move to the southwest and late Friday night it is at the far end of the Vestfjord before weakening. Follow here ???? https://t.co/u6O2VtqRODpic.twitter.com/AkrbJGr9K8
In Agder and Telemark, a warning for snow has been issued, and there can be as much as 10 – 20 centimeters from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning.
In the height, there can also be larger amounts, the Meteorologists write and at the same time ask that people drive according to the conditions.
Cold but rising
– It will be a week with very typical weather for the period we are in. Yesterday we noted -30.7 degrees in Karasjok, but it will not be so cold in the future. But the Finnmark plateau and the hinterland in the far north can bring temperatures down to minus 15 degrees, says state meteorologist Iselin Skjervagen at the Meteorological Institute.
She says that the difference in weather between the regions in the coming long-term period is mainly in the middle of the country.
– In Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, the cold weather continues, but temperatures are still rising. The beginning of the weekend will be nice, but over the weekend there will be a low pressure that runs along land near Lofoten and can give a lot of snow, says Skjervagen.
Fine, but varied
We continue with the three northernmost counties, which from next week will have a lot of varied weather, but no extremities of any kind. Towards Tuesday, it is likely to be a lot of nice weather over parts of the northernmost part of the country.
– Thursday and Friday it seems that we get new low pressure towards Lofoten.
– Our overviews show that the precipitation will come as snow and mostly stay by the coast. There we risk that the low pressures will be towards the end of the period. In some places, heavy snow showers can build up, says Skjervagen.

Then to the rest of Norway, from northern Trøndelag, via western Norway and southern and eastern Norway. This part of the country enters a colder period with both precipitation and sun. The precipitation will come mostly as a sprinkle of snow, no heavy amounts.
– Along the coast, the precipitation comes as rain and sleet, and as snow a little further up in the heights, says Skjervagen:
– A little later than Tuesday, it will clear up in most places in southern and central Norway, and this will gradually lead to cooler weather. But towards the end of the period, we expect a new low pressure with sleet and snow in the region.
