In the evening of April 29, at the Daile Theater ceremony at the Daile Theater with a live broadcast on the Latvian public media platform LSM.lv, awards for 2019–2020 were presented. The most outstanding achievements in the dance industry.
The two-year dance events were evaluated and the winners were selected by the jury: ballet art expert Agnese Andersone, ballet art experts Lita Beiris and Tālis Sils, contemporary dance experts Agnese Bordjukova and Elīna Gediņa, stage folk dance experts Reinis Rešetins and us Gunta Skuja dance experts Inga Raudinga and Maija Tjurjapina.
The director of the dance award ceremony Valters Sīlis and his creative team created it in such a way that with the help of video sketches of specially designed works, it would be possible to gain an insight into the brightest events of the dance industry in the past two years. During the ceremony, the winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award were honored – dance teacher, choreographer and head of the Dance Festival Ingrīda Edīte Saulīte and premiere of the ballet, film actor, teacher, long-term director of Riga Choreography High School Haralds Ritenbergs.
Each winner of the Dance Award received a cash prize and a statuette created by the artist Gintas Grūbe.

Daugavpils dance group “Factory Kingz” (the host bboy An-Juicy (Andrzej Zachynayev)) – for winning the title of world champion among juniors “Snipes Battle of the YearMontpellier (France)
The evening was also served LSM.lv the audience sympathy awards clarified in the vote. In the category “Dance Performance” it was received by the performance “The Story of Clare and the Nutcracker” (choreographers Tālis Sils and Gunta Liepiņa-Millere, producer “TS Dance Academy”). In turn, the viewers acknowledged Dagmāra Bārbale’s video work “To Decorate in the Sign of the Sun” as a “Dance Event”. The winners received LSM.lv the visual format of the spectator sympathy award established in the audience votes – dishes with engraving.
Dance.lv magazine, an internet platform dedicated to dance, presented its special awards “Dancepunkc” – this award once every five years highlights the personalities who during this time have creatively influenced the operation of the magazine and the dance industry in general. Ballet dancer Jūlija Brauere, contemporary dance artist Kristīne Brīniņa, stage folk dance choreographer Dagmāra Bārbale and hip-hop dance representative Anastasija Jasvina received Dancepunkc statuettes and diplomas.
The dance award is the highest award in professional dance art. It is awarded every two years in ballet, contemporary dance, stage folk dance and contemporary dance for achievements in the creation of new productions, performances and dance events, as well as in pedagogical and research work. This year, the Dance Awards were presented for the second time. The “Dance Prize 2019-2020” presentation ceremony was carried out in accordance with the epidemiological safety regulations to limit the spread of Covid-19 infection.
The dance award is organized by the Latvian Dance Information Center in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.
