The 40th edition of the Dance Festival, organized in the central Cuban province of Villa Clara, today celebrates its first day of activities marked by the celebration of Mexican culture, the country that is the guest of honor at the event. Agreed until October 20 in the city of Santa Clara, 278 kilometers east of Havana, the festival will receive folk dance groups and theater groups from Mexico, who have several presentations planned as part of the artistic program, as well as a tour of the municipalities of Villa Clara between October 21 and 25.
According to Marta Meneses, honorary president of the festival, the theoretical segment includes workshops on traditional Mexican dances, the evolution of rumba in Cuba and the French Tumba, one of the most deeply rooted cultural practices in the east of the country, as well as technical meetings. around choreographic work and conversations between creators.
As part of the Dance Festival, Villa Clara also receives artistic groups from various provinces of the country, who, in addition to the presentations organized on the stages of Santa Clara, will be in several difficult-to-access communities in the province, as part of the strategy of social inclusion that distinguishes the event.
Roberto Manso, provincial director of Casas de Cultura, explained that the festival also seeks to recognize the more than 1,300 art instructors in Villa Clara, often in charge of guaranteeing the initial training of children and young people who later make up dance groups. throughout the country.
The 40th edition of the Dance Festival is also dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the “José Martí” Brigade of Art Instructors, as well as the 335th anniversary of the city of Santa Clara.
