Dance Competition Highlights: International Influences and High Scores

Saturday’s fifth round of the competition and the part “Flying the World” really started “from the floor”, i.e. with the performance of the Slovak folklore group Partia and their dance called Zemplín Variations. They introduced an evening that was very foreign and special in many ways – dancing to songs in Mandarin, Korean or Hungarian, for example. Both the band and the singers demonstrated that they are capable of taking on any challenge.

The jury criticized, but gave high numbers

If the viewers complained that the judges are sometimes very strict with the dancing celebrities, today they could be satisfied and often even surprised. Although Richard Genzer, Tatiana Drexler and Zdeněk Chlopčík mainly criticized the technical side of the dance at times, they often surprised the contestants with how high the numbers were when awarding the final grade. After all, that very evening there were also thirty points, i.e. three tens!

Darija Pavlovičová and Dominik Vodička in an oriental fairy tale

Darija Pavlovičová and Dominik Vodička opened the evening with samba in the Turkish style, i.e. also in appropriate costumes that seemed to have fallen out of a fairy tale about the beautiful Scheherazade. Their efforts were greatly appreciated by the jury with the resulting 26 points and the comment that they improve and grow from performance to performance. Although Tatiana Drexler did not forgive the criticism of how the young actress holds her “back”, she also did not spare recognition for the progress made.

Josef Maršálek and Adriana Mašková had an argument on the floor

The second couple – Josef Maršálek and Adriana Mašková – danced Cha-chu to the Italian song of the group Ricky and Poveri. The choreography worked with the motif of a partner quarrel, but the well-known confectioner looked like a cute bear even in this situation. The jury rather appreciated the impression of his performance. As far as technique is concerned, Tatiana appreciated Josef’s sense of rhythm, but regretted that he has very slow feet, which she says is related to his weight. Zdeněk Chlopčík countered that his feet were quite fast due to his weight, and Geňa summed it up by saying that Josef Maršálek dances very minimalistically, but he actually enjoys it. The couple took home 18 points for their performance.

According to the jury, Josef Maršálek dances “sparingly”, but movingly. As you can see, the audience is also enjoying it, as they pushed him further with their votes Photo: Profimedia.cz

Marek Adamczyk and Lenka Nora Návorková with a Taiwanese waltz

To the sound of a Taiwanese song, sung in Mandarin, Marek Adamczyk performed with Lenka Nora Návorková. They did very well and were praised by the judges for also improving a lot. Although both Genňa and Zdeněk Chlopčík reproached them that their waltz bounced around a lot and was not smooth enough. After counting from the jury, they received 21 points.

Tereza Mašková and Daniel Kecskeméti in the zoo

Hungarian was heard during the performance of Tereza Mašková and Daniel Kecskeméti. Their samba had a lot of energy, but it still lacked something – Tatiana probably summed it up for the jury by stating that in certain parts of the dance Tereza was beautiful, but in others it rubbed off. Zdeněk Chlopčík added that Tereza was supposed to be a tigress, but she was just a cuddly tigress. Even after this criticism, the pair received 23 points.

Eva Adamczyková and Jakub Mazůch with confetti

Eva Adamczyková and Jakub Mazůch brought luminous costumes to the dance floor, but also a purifying energy in all directions. They danced the cha-chu to one of the hits of the Korean singer PSY. In addition to the interesting choreography, during which confetti rained from Eva’s belt and Jakub took off his pants, the jury also appreciated the dancer’s fast feet. They received three nines from the jury, i.e. 27 points.

Iva Kubelková and Martin Prágr cooked three times 10 at the stove!

Although the performance of Iva Kubelková and Martin Prágr started in an apron by the stove, it quickly turned into the hit of the entire evening. Iva changed from a housewife to a sexy samba dancer in a second and not only impressed the jury with her perfect performance. Zdeněk Chlopčík told her that if she cooks as well as she dances the samba, he would like to taste the food. The jury praised the performance with three tens – they were awarded for the first time in this year’s competition and were appreciated not only by the other contestants, but also by the audience, among whom the cameras found Ivy Kubelková’s husband and two daughters.

Vavřinec Hradilek and Kateřina Bartuněk Hrstková in India

The last competitive pair of the evening was Vavřinec Hradilek and Kateřina Bartuněk Hrstková. Their waltz was accompanied by a really exotic Indian song, which the couple adapted with costumes and choreography. The jury also appreciated this – although it is said that its complexity was the reason why the couple sometimes lacked the proper rhythm. According to Zdeňk Chlopčík, even the lifter, which the couple danced enriched and which the audience already takes as their “brand”, was not suitable for the waltz. Despite the criticism, the jury gave the couple 24 points.

I’m happy, Tereza Mašková said in farewell

After counting the votes of the jury and those sent by the audience via SMS, Tereza Mašková and Daniel Kecskeméti were eliminated from the competition. The singer said during the closing speech that she is happy despite the elimination and that she really enjoyed the last dance.
