Through 2 messages posted this Monday in his Instagram story, Damso wished to advise young artists in search of success.
Aged 30, Damso is unquestionably one of the pillars of French-speaking rap today, a status he has hardly acquired thanks to years of work and sacrifice, as well as an extraordinary talent. However, before finding fame, Dems had very difficult times, fleeing the Congo war with his parents as a child or living on the streets in Belgium for a while as a young adult. A career that allows him to have a certain distance and some sound advice for all young artists who intend to make music their profession. Yet very discreet at the moment, the native of Kinshasa still chose his Instagram story to deliver some of his precious thoughts: “Dear and dear artists, emancipate yourselves, in record company, in independent, in license contract, whatever, emancipate yourselves. Playlisted or not, hit or not, flop or no flop, do what you like until others like it. Be your first fan, there is no point chasing after success, it is ephemeral. Our children’s children will probably never know you and will probably never have heard of you because their generation will also have its share of artists”.

“Don’t think about breaking the codes”
As a conclusion to his message, Damso wishes to encourage his artists to try, even if it means making mistakes or failing: “Practice your passion for yourself, share it for yourself, don’t seek approval from anyone but yourself. Don’t think about breaking the codes, there is no code, we are in infinity. Invent, enjoy, enjoy, fail, succeed, start over, love, live”. A beautiful message for a Damso who, if he is far from retiring, intends to take a step back from his career. For this, he wants to buy a motorhome in which he would fit out a studio in order to hit the road with his family while still making music. Before that, he must give several concerts in the coming months, including 2 dates scheduled for December at the Accor Arena in Paris.
