Damon Stoudamire leaves Celtics bench for NCAA

Assistant coach of the Celtics since 2021, former player Damon Stoudamire has resigned to take up a position in the NCAA.

Damon Stoudamire played his last game with the Celtics on Monday against Houston. Arrived on the Boston bench in 2021 when nominatedMaking Udoka, he was one of the assistants of the last NBA finalists. Despite Udoka being shelved early in the season, Stoudamire retained his position when the franchise named Joe Mazzulla succession. He even replaced the head coach in two games when the latter had a health problem. But, the former NBAer will leave Boston to take the reins of the university of Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets have fired their coach Josh Pastner following a disappointing campaign (15 wins for 18 defeats). In seven seasons spent at the helm, Pastner has recorded only three positive balance sheets for a single participation in the March Madness.

Converted to coaching very early on after a busy NBA career, Damon Stoudamire first cut his teeth at Rice University before joining the Grizzlies staff in 2009 and then that of Arizona two years later. He accepted his first position as head coach in 2015 at Pacific University. A successful experience with the title of Coach of the Year of the West Coast Conference in 2020. The former Raptors point guard will be introduced to his new team this week. Its mission: to restore the image of a prestigious university which has no longer reached the Sweet Sixteen for 19 years. For this, he will benefit from a guaranteed contract for the next five seasons.
