Heart stroke ” The 21-year-old singer from Friborg has just released her latest track, entitled Soul mate.
“Singing is in my nature,” says Damla Oktay, singer from Friborg. Confident eyes, self-confident air, as if ready to do battle, the young woman of Kurdish origin does not seem to be cold-eyed. Very early on, she embarked on musical composition: “I’ve been writing my own songs since I was 10 years old.” If Damla has always felt a passion for music, she only recently entered the public sphere. “I’ve always loved singing, but until now I had never dared to expose my passion,” she says.
The young artist reveals herself: “It was after a particularly passionate and destructive romantic relationship that I felt the need to write and sing.” She then writes and performs her first song, Thousand Pieces, that she publishes on YouTube in April 2020. “I sent her this song to be able to deliver me by releasing everything I still had on my heart,” says Damla with emotion. In less than 24 hours, the song made the rounds of the net and collected more than 1000 views.
Since this episode, the singer has four new songs to her credit, in a style all her own: “I don’t like to categorize my music, but if I have to make up my mind, I would say that my songs are between pop and the French variety. ” In a melancholy and dark universe, Damla describes the tortuous paths of an ephemeral and dangerous passion that ends up burning her wings. “What inspires my music is both love and melancholy. It allows me to exteriorize my pain, it is cathartic, ”she explains. The composer adds: “My art is my outlet.”
All his songs can be found on various listening platforms, such as Spotify or Apple Music, and are gathered on the link of his Instagram page @damlaoktay. His last piece, Soul mate, released in December 2020, denotes a new energy, like a hope of finding love. Damla is already looking forward to releasing new sounds: “I will be releasing a new track by the end of this month and I aim to release my first EP this year!” KAZIWA RAIM
