Damaris Egurrola’s Rare Goal for Olympique Lyonnais and Heroics for The Dutch National Team

09 dec 2023 om 00:07

Damaris Egurrola ended her dream week on Friday with a rare goal for Olympique Lyonnais. On Tuesday she was the big hero for the Dutch national team with two goals.

Egurrola received low-flying Lille with Olympique Lyonnais. It was never tense in Lyon, where Daniëlle van de Donk started on the bench. The home team was already 2-0 ahead at halftime thanks to goals from Wendie Renard and Ada Hegerberg. Egurrola suffered a penalty in the first half, but more than made up for it after the break.

In the 57th minute, Egurrola made it 3-0. It was only her sixth goal for the 24-year-old midfielder for Olympique Lyonnais, where she has been playing since 2021. Her last goal was on April 2.

A week in which she scores three times is a rarity for Egurrola. On Tuesday she became the saving angel of Orange. Egurrola scored two late goals in the Nations League match against Belgium and thus kept the Dutch Olympic dream alive.

Griedge Mbock and Amel Majri set the final score in Lyon at 5-0. Due to the victory, Olympique Lyonnais is still proudly at the top with thirty points from ten games. The Paris Saint-Germain of Jackie Groenen and Lieke Martens is third with twelve points less. The team from Paris has played three fewer matches.
