Damage to Russian Submarine Rostov-on-Don: Analysis & Impact

Judging by the images, two strikes were made on the submarine – they hit the submarine’s front part and the starboard side, the “Conflict Intelligence Team” writes on its “Telegram” channel.

Norwegian military analyst Tur Aram Iversen was asked to comment on the images by the Conflict Intelligence Team.

He believes that as a result of the impacts, the submarine’s living and torpedo compartments, as well as possibly auxiliary spaces with the living compartment and battery rooms, were damaged.

Whether other compartments were also damaged depends on whether the hatches separating the compartments were closed at the time of the impact.

The expert believes that it is theoretically possible to repair the submarine, but in that case it would have to be moved to a repair factory in St. Petersburg.

Therefore, the expert believes that such repairs would be too expensive, so it is easier to write off the damaged submarine.

On the night of September 13, the armed forces of Ukraine carried out a missile attack on the shipyard in Sevastopol. In this attack, the submarine “Rostov na Donu” and the landing ship “Minsk” were damaged.

Ukraine is believed to have carried out the strike with Storm Shadow missiles received from Western partners.
