The fall of Chloe Dygert was a disgusting picture. In a fast corner, the American defending champion lost control of her time trial bike in the time trial and was catapulted over the crash barrier.
A medical team quickly arrived to treat her and transfer her to the hospital in Bologna. There she immediately went under the knife yesterday to clean and suture the large cut on her knee.
“We are relieved, this could have ended much worse,” said Jim Miller, Chief of Sport Performance among American cyclists. “We are convinced that she will be back on her bike soon. Chloe is young and is a fighter.”
23-year-old Dygert is trained by Kristin Armstong, three-time Olympic time trial champion. She too sees it positively. “She has had setbacks in the past and has always come back stronger. With her talent, I have no doubt that will be the case now.”
