JAKARTA – Doomsday believed to happen in time and destroy life, neither the Koran nor science has explained it.
However, no one knows when it happened. Allah says in the Qur’an:
يَسْـَٔلُوْنَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ اَيَّانَ مُرْسٰىهَاۗ قُلْ اِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِنْدَ رَبِّيْۚ لَا يُجَلِّيْهَا لِوَقْتِهَآ اِلَّا هُوَۘ ثَقُلَتْ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِۗ لَا تَأْتِيْكُمْ اِلَّا بَغْتَةً ۗيَسْـَٔلُوْنَكَ كَاَنَّكَ حَفِيٌّ عَنْهَاۗ قُلْ اِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ
“They ask you (Muhammad) about the Hour, “When will it happen?” Say, “Indeed, the knowledge of the Hour is with my Lord; no one (anyone) can explain the time of occurrence except Him. (Doomsday) is very heavy (chaos for the creatures) in the heavens and on the earth, it will not come to you, except suddenly.” They asked you as if you knew it. Say (Muhammad), “Indeed the knowledge of (Doomsday) is with God, but most people do not know,” (QS. Al-A’raf: 187).
In the book Tafsir Ilmi with the theme of Doomsday in the Perspective of the Qur’an and Science, it is explained that all events must begin with the appearance of signs.
Before a volcano erupts, for example, around the area usually things that are signaled first occur. The signs are like the air is getting hotter, the leaves are dry, the animals are coming down the mountain, the emergence of a burst of smoke from the crater, and so on.
If an event such as a volcano erupting has signs, then the apocalypse which is a major event will also be the same.
Regarding the physical signs of the apocalypse on Earth, the discussion of destruction on land and sea is a topic that cannot be missed. It can be seen with the naked eye that the Earth is getting worse. This can be seen from the increasingly deforested forests and causes landslides and floods.
Corruption has appeared on land and at sea, due to what people’s hands have earned, to make them taste what they did to them.
“Corruption has appeared on land and in the sea due to the deeds of human hands, so that Allah may feel for them some of the (results of) their deeds, so that they return (to the right path),” (Surah Ar-Rum: 41).
Signs of the Apocalypse
In the book Tafsir Ilmi “Doomsday in the perspective of the Qur’an and Science” compiled by Lajnah Pentashihan Mushaf Al-Qur’an, the Indonesian Ministry of Religion’s Research & Education Agency and the Indonesian Science Board (LIPI) revealed the state of the Earth on the Day of Doomsday.
There are signs that can be observed by the human eye before the apocalypse. Scientists have even proposed schemes that occur such as Earth colliding with another planet or an asteroid impact and so on.
Whatever schemes or theories scientists come up with, there is a big mess that will be experienced by the Earth. One of them is the terrible shaking that occurred on Earth. The Qur’anic verse has revealed about the doomsday event.
This is the earthquake of the earth.
And the earth brought forth its burdens.
“When the earth is shaken with a (terrible) shaking, and the earth has released its heavy burdens (which it contained),” (QS. Az-Zalzalah: 1-2)
The word Az-Zalzalah (terrible shaking) is a noun form of zalzala – yuzalzilu – zalzalatan, which shakes. Thus, az-zalzalah means shaking.
Because its mention in Surah Az-Zalzalah is followed by maf’ul mutlaq, then this word is interpreted as a great shock that occurs in all corners of the Earth.
In addition to the occurrence of shocks in all corners of the Earth, one of the signs of the apocalypse is the rising of the sun from the west. Scientists realized that the number of days in a year decreased over time and found that the only explanation for this decrease was a decrease in the speed of Earth’s rotation on its axis in front of the sun.
Future graphic projections of the process of decreasing Earth’s rotational speed reveal that this process will force the Earth to rotate in the opposite direction from east to west. This is one of the signs of the great apocalypse, such as the prophecy of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.
The Messenger of Allah said, “Doomsday will not occur until the sun rises from the west, if it has risen, then people witness it, then everyone will believe, at that time the faith of a person who has not believed before that, or he (has not) done good in the time of his faith”.
