City council looking for a financially viable solution for a temporary bridge to the building yard.
(kn). The “historic” bridge over the Kander in Malsburg, built in 1911 at the loading station for stone transports by rail to Kandern, was judged by experts as ailing and no longer rehabilitated. The cost of a new building was put at 800,000 euros, an amount that put many plans in the 2021 budget into question. The bridge is currently still passable with loads of up to twelve tons. For a makeshift bridge, made by THW for the construction period of the main bridge, a truck crane would cost up to 80,000 euros – depending on the length of the makeshift bridge – and running monthly costs of around 3,000 euros.
From the center of the municipal council came an alternative solution, known as the “tube variant”: It should be checked whether a dam construction is possible in which the Kander water is led through three tubes and the traffic via the top of the dam. Such solutions, which must of course be flood-proof, have recently been successfully practiced by the road construction authority for similar bridge renovations in the municipal area, it was argued. Now Mayor Mario Singer was able to inform the local council that the nature conservation and water rights authorities have given written approval for the temporary bridge until 2024. With the one-off investment costs, which are assumed to be a maximum of 50,000 euros, they are well below the “THW solution”. The investigations into the necessary scope of the main investment, the bridge construction, have not yet been completed, said Singer. When drilling was carried out in March, the subsoil was examined, the evaluation is still being carried out. Above all, it is about the necessary depth of the foundation. Problems emerged here, especially on the side facing the building yard.
