Dallas Maverick yes Los Angeles Clippers have formed something of a modern NBA classic in recent seasons: they met in dramatic first-round playoff series in 2020 and 2021, with Luca Doncic yes Paul George as great protagonists.
He had his tonight first meeting of the 2022-2023 season and it was not for this, with a dramatic closure until the last seconds, that he ended up opting for the Mavericks win 103-101.
Beyond the Luka Doncic’s usual great match (35 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists on 11-11 free throws), who went from top to bottom as his team, Dallas ended up being saved by the triples (17-43, 7 converts by Dorian Finney Smith and 4 by Reggie Bullock, six hits in the final six minutes) in a game that dominated the defense early on: he had allowed the Clippers only 32 points in the first half and then had conceded 33 points in the third quarter and 36 points in the fourth.
The Angelenos, still without Kawhi Leonard, weren’t enough with the marked improvement they showed at the hand of John Wall (17 points and 4 assists), who started the second half for the Luke Kennard injury and ordered the squad to attack. To highlight the party Nicolas Batum, with 7-7 in triplesand the possessions he gave away Paul George: 10 defeats, the worst mark of his entire career.

Dallas Mavericks victory. The Texans managed to prevail 103-101: they cut with a free kick in possession of the Clippers, Nicolas Batum hit the first free throw and shot to miss the second and Dallas grabbed the rebound and so with the victory.
The Clippers will have one last chance. Reggie Bullock was not as precise from the line as he is with triples, he missed a shot and that is why Dallas was unable to close the game: they win 103-100 and the guests have possession for a last attack at 6, 8 seconds end.
Triple closing party. Finney Smith’s triple was followed by two by Reggie Bullock, who reached four in the match, the seventh by Nicolas Batum with an incredible night of 7-7 from the perimeter and, with a layup by Paul George in the center, that of Luka Doncic who can be the ultimate dagger: Dallas wins 102-98 with 27.6 seconds left.

Finney Smith, momentary savior of the Mavs. Tonight he tied Dorian Finney-Smith’s seven triples and none was more celebrated at the American Airlines Center than the one he just made for a 93-93 run with less than three minutes left.
The Clippers reach the clutch up ahead. LA Clippers is clearly the better team in the second half and now it’s reflected on the scoreboard: they win 84-82 with five and a half minutes to go, after Wall adds five more points to his tally while Dallas still hasn’t managed to let Doncic enter the game fully since his return to the field. The Slovenian begins to fall into frustration.

Game tied in the last quarter. The Clippers manage to even the accounts at the start of the last period: 70-70 after two minutes in which Dallas is still unable to score a field goal.
Another Mavericks meltdown? Dallas wins just 69-65 after closing the third quarter: Doncic with 30 points tries to be the savior of a team that allowed the Clippers to score more points in the third period (33) than in the entire first half (32). Beware of ghosts for the Mavericks, who have lost four games this season in which they had a lead of 10 or more points (in just five losses).
Dallas doesn’t react and there’s a game. With 13 consecutive points from the Clippers, the score is now a 61-57 run for Dallas, very different from what we saw in the first half, and the sensations are leaning towards the away team. John Wall took control of the game while for the Mavericks the triples do not fall or spaces appear for the inside game.

The guards begin to bring the Clippers into play. After losing 25 points, the Angelenos closed the gap to 61-46 with a good performance by John Wall, who came off the start of this second set because Luke Kennard will not return to the game due to a muscle injury in his right leg. Partial 16-7 in the first five minutes of the third period.
Defense of Dallas, total lockdown. The Mavericks left the Clippers with just 36% shooting from the field and pushed them to 12 losses: the Angelenos picked up just a few points thanks to three 3-pointers by Batum in the second quarter, but Finney-Smith (4-7) and Christian Wood (2-2) was also accurate from outside and between the two of them and Doncic they have 46 points, more than any rival team. Dallas wins 54-32.

The Mavericks double up on the Clippers at the end of the first quarter. Dallas wins 30-15, against an opponent who has shot 1-9 from three point range, who barely has a player with more than 3 points (Marcus Morris, with 4) and who can’t even score inside the field. Christian Wood has already entered at a high level at the end of the first quarter and Doncic is the top scorer with 12 goals.

Dallas dominates at the start with triples. The Mavericks took a 23-11 lead early in the game, with two 3-pointers by Finney-Smith and two more by Dinwiddie as Doncic managed the game with seven more points. The Clippers for their part have not yet found points from Paul George, with 0-2 from the field.
