Head coach Mike McCarthy ruled out Prescott for Sunday’s home game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Prescott was injured in the second half of a 27-21 loss to the Falcons in Atlanta.
Multiple reports citing unnamed sources have said Prescott is expected to miss multiple games.
Any prolonged absence of Prescott would be another blow this season for the Cowboys (3-5), who are experiencing their first three-game losing streak since 2020. The Dallas team played the final 11 games of that season without Prescott, who had broken his ankle.
Prescott said after the Falcons game that he noticed something was wrong with a hamstring coming out of his pocket. He mentioned that he felt something he hadn’t felt before when he threw a pass. Prescott did not play in the fourth quarter.
Cooper Rush replaced Prescott against the Falcons. Rush went 4-1 as a starter in place of Prescott two years ago after he broke his thumb in a season-opening loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Still, the Cowboys had the second of three straight 12-win seasons that took them to the playoffs.
The Cowboys are already three games behind the Washington Commanders and the Eagles in the National Association Eastern Division standings.
Trey Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 draft, will be Rush’s backup against the Eagles.
