The Dallas Cowboys have struggled defensively in recent years. But their shortcomings were laid bare for everyone to see last season when the team allowed a franchise record of 473 points.
Ranked 28th out of 32 teams for points conceded, the Cowboys knew serious reinforcements were needed on the defensive front. And what they did by going all-out in the draft.
Of the 11 picks available for the franchise in the 2021 NFL Draft, the team used eight on defensive players. And the Cowboys left the NFL Draft with their most valuable asset being Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons.
Micah Parsons was a phenomenon in the college circuit. Named All-Big Ten, All-American, Conference Linebacker of the Year, the Penn State graduate also won the MVP award at the Cotton Bowl.
With great things expected of a Cowboys uniform, franchise legend DeMarcus Ware recently gave his first impressions of the linebacker.
Micah Parson a mix of several Dallas Cowboys legends
During segment of Blogging the Boys, Ware was asked about his first impressions of Parsons and if the young linebacker reminded him of a player from his playing time.
In answering the question, Ware couldn’t pick a player to compare Parsons with. Instead, the former Cowboys linebacker himself took the names of several NFL players from the past to describe Micah Parsons.
“I think it must be a couple of guys. I look at him like a Brian Urlacher type guy who can hustle the passer. And then a puncher like Zach Thomas and Brady James.
“And then a cover guy like Shawn Lee. If you can mix all these guys. That’s what you get with Parsons, ”Ware said.
Ware himself was a leading linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys at the time. Nine times Pro Bowler and four times All-Pro, DeMarcus Ware’s legacy will long be remembered in the city of Dallas.
And Cowboys fans are hoping their rookie linebacker can follow in his predecessor’s footsteps and rack up All-Pro appearances himself in the years to come.
