Dallas College will also enroll people who want to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Beginning Monday, and in conjunction with Dallas County Health Services, the Cedar Valley and Mountain View campuses will assist individuals who require assistance requesting appointments, Dallas College announced in a statement.
Both campuses are in sectors with a high incidence of covid-19.
In this way, community colleges join DISD and other county-supported events at recreation centers and supermarkets that seek to increase the diversity of people getting vaccinated by enrolling them in person.
The pandemic exposed a digital divide, revealing a high percentage of residents without internet access. In Dallas, 42% of homes lack high-speed internet, according to the 2016 Census Bureau Survey of American Communities
The Hispanic community is one of the most affected by the pandemic, but only 20% of Latinos residing in Dallas had been vaccinated according to an analysis presented in late January by the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation.
After several problems getting Hispanics and African Americans on the list for their appointment and immunization against COVID-19, the county has begun promoting places for the community to get vaccinated in person.
At this time, only people within phases 1A (health workers) and 1B (adults over 65 and people with risk conditions) can be vaccinated, but the county requires that everyone register so they can be notified when it’s your turn.
On Thursday more than 1,000 people registered for an event held outside the Super Mercado Monterrey in Oak Cliff.
On Saturday the 6th, DISD schools will begin enrolling people for vaccination.
