Former Manchester United and Bayern Munich defender Daley Blind ended his international career on Wednesday, after 108 international appearances for the Dutch national team, to make way for a “generation new talented”.
The 34-year-old was part of the Dutch national team that reached the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup and the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup before losing to Argentina on both occasions.
In a message he wrote on his personal account on the social networking site “X” (formerly Twitter), Blind said: “A new generation of talent is coming, and after a conversation with the coach of the national team, it’s time there is complete focus on it. on my team and my family.”
The defender said: “I was honored to wear the orange jersey 108 times. “For me, the best thing a player can do is represent his country.
Dall rose through various age groups at Ajax and eventually reached the first team, where he won four consecutive Eredivisie titles with the Dutch football giants based in the capital, Amsterdam.
In 2014, he moved to Manchester United for 14 million pounds ($23 million, 17.7 million euros) under Dutch coach Louis van Gaal.
He won the local cup and the Europa League with United, but returned to Ajax in 2018 for another spell which saw the club win three Dutch League titles.
In January 2023, he signed with German giants Bayern Munich, adding to the local titles he had won, before moving to Girona, Spain. In 2019, after feeling dizzy during a Champions League match, Blind was diagnosed with inflammation of the muscles around his heart, and a pacemaker was inserted, allowing him to continue his course -life.
He continued: “I’ve done my best for 11 years to continue wearing the beautiful orange national team shirt. It gave me many beautiful moments. “I love her.”
Blind played his first international match in 2013 in a friendly match against Italy. His last appearance with the Dutch national team was when he came on as a substitute against Romania in the 2024 European Cup.
