Dales fears “garden gnomes” at the controls of 50Plus | Inland

Dales warns about this in an open letter to 50Plus founder Jan Nagel, one of the leaders in the party who have insisted on his resignation. “This is what comes when incompetent amateurs, with the support of prominent people, want to take over the party.”

Dales and his co-directors recently announced their departure from 50PLUS. The party has been torn apart for years by arguments, which were often about the division of jobs. The former alderman of Amsterdam had flown in to restore peace, but this spring the unrest flared up again.

This time this also led to a split in the House of Representatives. The majority had given up confidence in Dales. Only Henk Krol, for years the figurehead of 50PLUS in political The Hague and an ally of Dales, continued to support him.

New batch

Krol has since left the party. He now forms a new group in the House of Representatives with Femke Merel Van Kooten-Arissen, who had previously left the Party for the Animals while retaining her seat. Dales also previously ruled out that he would join the Party for the Future that they founded.

Dales again calls on Nagel to assume the role of 50Plus chairman. “If you want something left of your brainchild that had so much potential and that was close to government responsibility under my leadership, you will have to take your responsibility.”
