Despite recent rumors of a possible breakup, Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin’s strong relationship continues. A representative for the Madame Web actress denied the speculation, telling People magazine that “they are happily together.”
Although the couple had briefly split in May 2024, a source close to People assured that, despite their “ups and downs,” “they are now definitely back on track and still going strong.” Later in June, the magazine confirmed that the Coldplay frontman and the Fifty Shades of Grey singer had been engaged for “years,” although they were “in no rush to tie the knot.”

The alleged split was first reported by MailOnline, which claimed the stars had agreed to call off their engagement and go their separate ways “after several months of estrangement.” A recent photo of Johnson taken without her emerald ring while walking her dog added fuel to the rumours.
“Chris and Dakota have been trying desperately over the past few months to make their relationship work. They will always love each other but have come to the conclusion that the relationship cannot be sustained in the long term. They wanted it to work but it didn’t and they have now accepted that it is best to move on,” said the MailOnline source.

However, Johnson, 34, is currently living in the California home shared by Martin, 47. The actress was also recently spotted at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK, where she attended to support the musician during his main performance. After seven years of dating, the two continue to emerge as one of the most stable couples in Hollywood.
The relationship between Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson has been a topic of interest for the media and fans since they were first spotted together in 2017, at a dinner in a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles. The knowing glances and shared laughs did not go unnoticed, sowing the first speculations about a possible romance.

A month later, Dakota attended a Coldplay concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she was photographed enjoying the show from a control panel located in the center of the stadium. In the following months, they fueled rumors by being seen on dates and casual outings, from dinners with friends to walks on the beach in Malibu.
At that time, a year had passed since the musician had officially divorced actress Gwyneth Paltrow, with whom he had two children, Apple (13) and Moses (11). Their separation took place in 2014, after ten years of marriage.

He was later linked to other Hollywood stars such as Jennifer Lawrence and Annabelle Wallis. But it was not until October 2017 that he made his relationship with Johnson official, when they both made their first public appearance at the Stella McCartney fashion show in Los Angeles.
Although neither of them have spoken openly about their relationship, Dakota’s parents have been vocal about their support and joy regarding the relationship. Don Johnson joked about the situation, saying that his daughter was “too old” to worry, while Melanie Griffith, her mother, admitted that she “adored” Martin.
The actress herself seemed to confirm her relationship in an interview with Tatler in 2018, saying simply: “I’m not going to talk about it, but I’m very happy.”
Over time, Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have shown the great support and respect they have for each other’s careers.
Since then, Johnson has been a constant supporter of the artist, attending numerous Coldplay concerts and even directing a music video for the band’s song “Cry Cry Cry” in February 2020.
The couple is currently estranged as Chris Martin is busy with the European leg of his Music of the Spheres world tour, while Dakota Johnson has just wrapped filming her upcoming romantic comedy, Materialists, alongside acclaimed Pedro Pascal.
