Libreville, January 8, 2024 (AGP) – Dakar, the Senegalese capital will host from January 9 to 11, the fiftieth conference of the French-speaking press, under the theme “Media, peace and security”, after those of 2014 hosted in the same city, we learn from a well-informed source.
The debate of this “great” journalism mass in Dakar, led by the International Union of the French-speaking Press, will see, according to the organizers, the participation of nearly 700 journalists, headed by Senegalese and foreign professionals from French-speaking countries and other nationalities, such as Georgia, Serbia, Montenegro, Haiti, Canada, Guyana, Thailand, Greece or even Rwanda, Gabon, etc.
January 9 precisely will be dedicated to the inaugural Conference at the Conference Center, Abdou Diouf. There will also be topics such as “Disinformation, manipulation: how to resist attempts to control the media”, “Peace and security in the age of social networks”, “Media and the challenges of food security” as well as “How to reconcile freedom of the press and responsibility?
Present on 5 continents with 110 sections bringing together some 4,000 journalists and collaborators from the written, audiovisual and internet press, the International Union of the French-speaking Press has, in turn, evolved from the International Association of French-speaking Journalists, created in 1950 in Paris, at the International Union of Journalists and the French-speaking Press in 1971, then the International Union of the French-speaking Press (UPF) in 2001.
It is recognized as an international non-governmental organization by the largest international or multilateral institutions such as the United Nations (UN), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the European Parliament in Strasbourg and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
