This layoff really hurts Dak Prescott.
Quarterback Prescott has let his feelings run free after the Dallas Cowboys announced they were parting ways with longtime star running back Ezekiel Elliott.
“It’s tough,” he told The Athletic: “It’s really, really tough playing this game without my brother. We started our NFL career together, share so many memories, are in this one as men Franchise has grown. I just can’t imagine being on the field without him. It’s something I don’t know if I’ve fully grasped yet.”
And further: “Of course I spoke to him. I’m injured. I’m sure he is too. But for me it’s more important that I can support him. I know he’ll get many more opportunities. I love this guy and I’m so proud of him. I’ll always be his biggest support no matter what.”
Big change in the cowboys
The cowboys have undergone a major change in recent years. Only ten players remain of the 2020 roster when head coach Mike McCarthy signed. “When I hear how much the tide has turned, ten is a big number at this point,” Prescott commented. “I didn’t see it coming, but it’s part of the business.”
What particularly hurts the playmaker: Many close friends and good teammates are leaving, but the franchise was still unable to win a championship. “Change is good. I’ve always said that. But it’s hard for me to see it that way right now,” admitted Prescott.
Elliott was drafted fourth overall by the Cowboys in 2016, with Prescott joining the team with the 135th pick. Because the experienced playmakers Tony Romo and Kellen Moore were injured, he surprisingly became a regular player and shaped an era with Elliott. After seven years, the time together is now over.
