The Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback is a brand unto himself and Dak Prescott knows him.
Forbes listed Prescott as the fourth highest paid athlete in the world, earning an estimated $ 107.5 million between May 1, 2020 and May 1, 2021.
During that time, Prescott earned $ 97.5 million from the Cowboys and $ 10 million from endorsements.
And now comes another endorsement: Jordan Brand.
Athletic shoe and sportswear company Michael Jordan signed Prescott to a five-year contract, multiple sources said.
Prescott also becomes the highest paid NFL player under Jordan Brand.
The official deal has not been announced and Jordan Brand does not speak publicly about these matters, instead focusing on revealing new athletes to his brand through his blog.
For Prescott, the black Jordan-branded sneakers he wore on the last day of the Cowboys’ mandatory veteran minicamp said it all.
There was no Jumpman logo for Michael Jordan, but the tongue of each shoe read Jordan Brand.
Prescott signed with Jordan Brand after spending five years with Adidas, who tried to re-sign the quarterback.
Michael Jordan and Prescott’s desire to form a partnership was something the quarterback could not resist.
Additionally, Prescott’s charitable efforts for social justice initiatives and mental health awareness were of great interest to Jordan Brand, who hopes to assist in those efforts.
This spring, four NFL players – Stefon Diggs, Devin White, Jarvis Landry and Kyle Pitts – signed with Jordan Brand.
In total, Jordan Brand has 25 soccer players under its umbrella.
The company invests primarily in basketball players, and the signing of Prescott is the latest example of Jordan Brand trying to make a mark in American football.
Prescott isn’t the first Cowboys player to sign with Jordan Brand.
Former wide receiver Dez Bryant was part of the company in 2013 for a brief period.
The brand has also had quarterbacks in the past like Jimmy Garoppolo, Dwayne Haskins and DeShone Kizer.
Neither of them have the expected impact Prescott could have.
Playing for the Cowboys, the most valued franchise in sports, gives Jordan Brand the opportunity to do a lot with the team and Prescott.
Prescott is the highest-profile athlete with Jordan Brand now and considering he has the highest contact in Cowboys history, it seemed like a perfect match.
“Jordan doesn’t like football, his forte is basketball,” said George Kiel III, brand director for Sports Dissected, who talks about clothing brands on his YouTube channel.
“For Jordan Brand, having Dak as the face of the brand is big business. Everyone knows that the quarterback is the face of the team.
“Jordan Brand has always done a good job with the brand. It’s a surprise to have a quarterback of the stature of Dak with them. It is the beginning of the Jordan brand positioning in different sports ”.
