Dairies: Where Stamou, Dimitriou, Venetis and Varsos bet – 2024-10-07 01:04:44

Rice milk, vanilla or chocolate creams, yogurts with skin, kefir, cremoselle, goat butter, fresh ice cream and traditional milk-based sweets are some of the products of modern dairies, which seem to be managing to prosper despite inflationary pressures and fashion of herbal drinks and desserts.

With a nostalgic storytelling, high quality raw materials (only fresh Greek milk), traditional recipes – like the old days – and strict food safety management systems, the dairy shops, in their modern version, became chains, while there are also a few old-fashioned ones that still hold strong , which is reflected in their financial figures.

Return to profits for Stamos and Dimitriou

The Stamos dairy company, owned since 2018 by Giotis, as well as the Dimitriou Dairy Products company, are the main “players” in Attica, totaling 34 dairies.

Clearly larger, Stamou, with today a network of 23 milk shops, was founded exactly 60 years ago and as of February 2022 is 100% owned by the Giotis group with management and shareholder leader Ioannis Giotis, as the remaining 10% of the share capital was acquired.

The turnover of Stamos in 2023 increased by more than 1 million euros reaching 30.59 million from 29.48 million in 2022. The company’s pre-tax profits were positive at 207 thousand euros from losses of 1.32 million euros the previous year, while the results after taxes also moved accordingly.

The distribution channel of the products through supermarkets also plays a key role in the improvement of sizes.

And last year Iotis strengthened the capacity and productivity of Stamos with investments in building improvements and machinery purchases (1.17 million euros).

The company produces a range of products, including fresh pasteurized milk, sheep’s yogurt, cow’s milk, strained, as well as dairy desserts such as creams and rice milk, as well as jellies, sour cream and butter. It has additional ice creams and sweets.

At the same time, Dimitriou, almost “the same age” as Stamos, as it was founded in 1969, has a network that currently numbers 11 milk shops and the goal for this year is to exceed 9.5 million euros in turnover.

Specifically, the pursuit of the management under Lambros Dimitriou is the further development of the company’s network, alongside the increase in productivity and the development of new products. A priority is also to reduce operating costs, where possible, as well as further development of the marketing department.

The company’s main customers are supermarkets, where Dimitrios products, as well as Stamos products, compete with all major dairy companies.

Galaktokomika Dimitriou ABEE “closed” 2023 with a turnover of 9.19 million euros from 7.75 million euros in 2022, registering an increase of 18.6%.
The company’s after-tax results amounted to profits of 85,535 euros from losses of 277,535 euros in 2022.

It is noted that Dimitriou’s dairy company specializes in the production of traditional yogurts and desserts, creams, rice milk, mustalewries, while its range of products is constantly being enriched with new items such as cremoselle, cream chocolate and traditional cream caramel. The production uses exclusively 100% Greek fresh milk from selected Greek farms, with cows that produce less but better quality milk.

The ambitious plan of the Veneti company

The Veneti group is also active in the dairy market through Cremeria Veneti with, while having recently acquired Dodoni Ice Creams, Panagiotis Monemvasiotis, president and CEO of the company, is launching a new concept that includes a gelateria, dairy and confectionary with super-frozen sweets, all with “natural milk”, as he pointed out.

For the development of Pagota Dodoni, the new owner is going to invest around 10 million euros in the next two years by buying – among other things – a farm in Viotia, with a capacity of 5,000 kg of milk per day.

97% increase in profits for Varsos of Kifissia

Serving “milk in a glass” since 1892, the Varsos Kifisia SA company is something of an institution in dairy shops.

Varso’s turnover for the financial year ended June 30, 2023 was up 24.92% to €2.89 million from €2.31 million in 2022, pre-tax profits increased by 86.56 % to 522,391 euros and net profits increased 97.16% to 394,761 euros.

The company, which began its operation from a dairy shop at the corner of Panepistio and Santaroza in the center of Athens in 1892, in its current legal form was founded in 1979 with the main activity of operating a confectionery – dairy and the manufacture and sale of fresh dairy and confectionery products .

Today, the fourth generation of the family is at the helm of the company.
