CASTELLÓ / CATALONIA / SPAIN: At the end of last week, the city council of Castelló d’Empúries gave the go-ahead for a loan change that would allow the budget items for 2021 to be updated and, among other things, avoid the consistory having to apply for a loan of EUR 1,478,000 to cover the to finance investments planned this year. This operation of changing financial items was carried out during the last plenary session and amounted to 2,716,658 euros.

In addition to using the well-filled city treasury from 2020, which amounts to 6,462,044 euros, the city council of Castelló d’Empúries will spend 1,238,658 euros on various investments. Among other things, 50,000 euros will be used to improve the pavements on Pau Casals street; 50,000 euros for drainage in Carrer de la Font; 125,000 euros to update the pumps in Pau Casals and Francesc Macià streets and 50,000 euros to maintain the seafront promenade in Empuriabrava.

By avoiding borrowing, the community saves the interest payments and the long repayment time.
