Daily new admissions of corona patients in Belgian hospitals continue to fall

(Belga) The number of new admissions of corona patients in Belgian hospitals will continue to fall for the time being. This is evident from data from health institute Sciensano.

From September 11 to 17, an average of 60 new COVID-19 patients were added to hospitals every day. That is more than a tenth less than in the previous week. There are currently 713 corona patients in hospitals. 213 of them are in intensive care units. The new confirmed infections with the corona virus rose again slightly in the seven days from September 8 to 14. This is an increase of 3 percent compared to the previous week to 1993. In total, 13,953 new infections were identified: 5,292 (38 percent) in Flanders, 4,949 (35 percent) in Wallonia and 3,385 (24 percent) in Brussels. During the same period, 14 percent more tests were also performed, an average of 45,000 tests per day. The positivity ratio remained stable at 4.9 percent (-0.5 percent). The reproduction number came out at 0.97, which means that the epidemic is slightly decreasing. The incidence, which indicates the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants, was 239.5 over a period of fourteen days, a decrease of 2 percent. Finally, deaths due to COVID-19 are decreasing again. There were an average of seven daily from September 8 to 14, 6 percent less than in the previous seven days. In total, the virus has already killed more than 25,500 people. In the period from 8 to 14 September, 50 people died: 19 in Flanders, 21 in Wallonia and 10 in Brussels.
