According to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, 20 minutes a day is enough to counteract the risk of mortality normally associated with a sedentary lifestyle. But what do we mean by 20 minutes of physical activity a day? Obviously we are not talking about extreme sports, since it is enough to do the little that allows the heart to increase your heart rate: a brisk walk, a run, a brisk climb up the stairs or even a swim are perfect activities in this sense.

A study wanted to test how physical activity can change the association between sedentary time and death and, above all, how much physical activity was involved. The habits of 12 thousand people were analysed: 2943 spent less than 10.5 hours sitting a day; 6042 more than 10.5 sedentary hours per day. During a minimum period of 5 years, scholars recorded 805 deaths: 357 belonged to the first group, 448 to the second.
In fact, therefore, sitting less seems to reduce the risk of death: “Small amounts of physical activity moderate to vigorous, they can be an effective strategy to lower the risk of mortality resulting from a sedentary lifestyle“, specify the scholars.
