Estimated reading time of 2 minutes

Hello everyone, it is Tuesday October 8 and you are listening to the daily flash from expatriates. In our headlines: The Minister of Foreign Affairs boycotted – Mélenchon wants to display Palestinian flags – Ski resorts victims of global warming in France

Consular advisors in Tel Aviv boycotted the French ceremony

Mr. Barrot’s visit comes against a backdrop of controversy between France and Israel after Emmanuel Macron spoke out in favor of stopping deliveries to Israel of weapons that could be used in the war in the Palestinian enclave. Words which reinforce the distrust of local elected officials. Indeed, the latter already criticize him for having minimized the impact of the Iranian attack. As a result, the 4 French advisors from Tel Aviv and its region did not attend the visit of the French minister to Ré’lm.

A call that displeases part of the left.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon asked the French this Friday to “put Palestinian flags wherever possible”starting this Tuesday, October 8, the day after Memorial Day, one year after the Hamas attacks in Israel. The leader of France Insoumise launched this initiative after warnings from the Minister of Higher Education, Patrick Hetzel. Anxious to avoid possible demonstrations which could degenerate into tensions with the police as was the case last May in front of Sciences-Po Paris, the minister called for “maintenance of order” to avoid actions which, according to him, go against the principles of neutrality and secularism.”

A closed ski resort in France

On Sunday, the inhabitants of Seyne-les-Alpes, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, voted to close the Grand Puy ski resort, managed by the municipality. The end of the activity of this ski area was validated within the framework of a municipal referendum. Located on the heights of the town, between 1,370 meters and 1,800 meters above sea level, the 24 kilometers of slopes had been weakened by global warming. The regular absence of snow had caused a drop in attendance and the structure accumulated hundreds of thousands of euros in losses per year, according to the town hall. A situation which risks multiplying over the coming decade for all mid-mountain resorts.
