A viral TikTok video of a man with the username @sageyweebs shares his story of drinking energy drinks for two years, leading to heart disease at an early age. In the Q&A in the comments, he admitted that he drank 1-2 cans every day and rarely drank water.
The flood of netizen comments who share stories is almost the same as him. But is it true that energy drinks can trigger heart disease?
Hannah Drake, a spokeswoman for the Heart Foundation created a video response to the viral story. In the no less viral response video, he asserts that energy drinks are associated with high blood pressure, irregular heart rate, stroke, and various other health problems.

“Many people are curious, is this real? Can this happen? I don’t like spreading bad news, but yes (true),” said Hannah, starting the video.
“One specific example is atrial fibrillation, which is a type of arrhythmia. It can trigger blood clots and increase the risk of stroke and heart failure,” explains Hannah.
The American Heart Association in 2021 reported that about 20 percent of heart attacks in the United States are asymptomatic. That is, a person sometimes does not realize he is experiencing it.
“But the damage to the heart is still going on. And they are becoming more and more vulnerable to having a second heart attack. So there are a lot of people who may be at risk and they may not even realize it,” said Hannah.
