Daile Theater’s Response to Accusations Against Kyiv Grand Ballet: Comments from ART Partner CZ SRO Producer

He emphasizes that, when renting out the premises, the Daile Theater makes sure, within its limits, whether the lessee is not on the list of sanctions of the European Union, introduced in connection with Russia’s extended war against Ukraine.

Also, Žagar points out – if the content of the program of a cultural event taking place in Latvia is in conflict with ideological settings, including in connection with Russia’s extended war against Ukraine, and measures that have been unambiguously accepted in Latvia after the start of the war, then such an event cannot take place and Daile Theater would consider the possibility of canceling lease agreement.

Žagar added that the contract with the lessee can also be terminated if the Ministry of Culture or law enforcement authorities indicate it.

The “bilesuserviss.lv” website states that the founder and director of “Kyiv Grand Ballet” Aleksandrs Stoyanov has been a soloist of the Ukrainian National Opera, staged performances and organized festivals. Since 2014, his new troupe from Kyiv has been performing for audiences all over the world. Due to the war started by Russia against Ukraine, the ballet troupe was “stuck” in Paris in February 2022, where it was participating in guest performances at the time. The troupe travels around the world collecting donations to support Ukraine.
