This season, 15 premieres will be shown at the Dailes Theater, as well as the concert series “Canon of the Dailes”, which will be premiered by the actress Olga Dreģe and composer, pianist Edgars Cīrulis on August 3. In October, the theater will open a new playground – the Glass Hall.
At the beginning of August, another premiere will take place at the Daile Theater – on August 5, a dramatization of Justina Kļava’s novel “Zemdega” directed by Dmitry Petrenko will be presented to the audience. The dramatization preserves the original literary language of Lake Regina, which, as noted in the theater, was a special experience for both actors and directors. The author of the performance music is Jānis Šipkēvics.
On August 12, the premiere of the contemporary tragic comedy “Consent”, full of tension by British playwright Nina Rhine, directed by Laura Groza, is expected. On August 27, the central event of the theatre’s centenary will be premiered – the production of Māra Zālīte’s latest play “Smiļģis” directed by Viesturs Kairišs.
In September, the premiere of Ežēna Jonesko’s comic absurd drama “Degunradži”, staged in the Great Hall of the Daile Theater by Hungarian director Ildiko Gāšpāra, combining Rhine and Christ Dzudzilo, as well as several Hungarian artists, is expected.
In October, the repertoire of Daile Theater will be supplemented by Regnārs Vaivars’ production “Three Friends”, which was inspired by the novel by Erik Maria Remark. There will also be another premiere in October – a performance of Elīna and Rūdolfs Gediņš and Krista and Reinis Dzudzilo’s movements “Very Good Minutes”.
In November, the premiere is scheduled for Henry Louis, Jonathan Seiers, Henry Shield’s play “Total Failure”. Intars Rešetins will be the director of the already popular comedy in Daile Theater.
December at the Daile Theater is marked by the production of the novel “Spring” by the Estonian cult writer Oskars Luts directed by Dmitry Petrenko, which is intended for the youngest audience of the theater.
Clarin van Campen’s “Farinelli and the King” will be directed by Viesturs Kairiss in January.
In the spring, the Daile Theater will have a series of performances. Polish director Lukash Tvarowski is working on the work of Anka Herbut, which is intentionally called “Rokto”, and it will premiere in March. The show will tell about the famous artist Mark Rothko’s relationship with plagiarism. In April, director Viesturs Kairišs will offer the audience the classic, Henrik Ibsen’s “Brands”. The Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s 1865 work “Brands” will be a new translation by Edvins Raups, which, as promised in the theater, will make the one-and-a-half-century-old play written in verses easy for the modern viewer to understand.
The lead playwright of the theater Justīne Kļava offers a comedy, which is currently given the temporary title “Washed”, which will reach the audience in May under the direction of Gata Šmita.
As a special novelty, Daile Theater highlights a new playground in the theater – the Glass Hall, which is located on the second floor of the theater. There will be the premiere on October 1, two performances combined in one event, namely, Patrick Ziskind’s “Double Bass”, staged by the new director Henrijs Arājs and the musical performance “Songs for an Empty Place” by Joanna Murray Smith, directed by Laura Upeniece.
There will be a premiere of François Sagana’s “Welcome, Sadness” directed by Klava Mellis in the Glass Hall in November.
Juris Žagars, Member of the Board of Daile Theater, Viesturs Kairišs, Artistic Director, and Justīne Kļava, Leading Playwright, informed about the repertoire of the 102nd season of Daile Theater and current events of the theater at the press event on August 3. Actress Olga Dreģe, pianist and composer Edgars Cīrulis provided an insight into the concert cycle “Dailes kanons”, as well as the actors of the production “Smiļģis” Eduards Smiļģis – Kārlis Arnolds Avots, Artūrs Skrastiņš, Gints Grāvelis and Toms Veličis. Architect Reinis Liepiņš informed the audience about the plans to rebuild the Small Hall of the Theater.
The press event was also attended by architect Reinis Liepiņš, who outlined his vision for the forthcoming reconstruction of the Theater Small Hall and Rehearsal Hall. Construction work on the theater is planned to start in the autumn of this year, completing the reconstruction of the Small Hall next year, in 2022.
Currently, performances at the Daile Theater can be attended by those who have been vaccinated against or have contracted Covid-19 and can present a Covid-19 certificate.
