The Japanese car brand Daihatsu will stop supplying all new car models. The decision comes after the discovery that the company has tampered with safety tests. Toyota models were also involved.

In April, Daihatsu admitted that the company had falsified crash test results. This happened in a series of 88,000 cars that it produced in Thailand and Malaysia in 2022 and 2023. This was followed by a more extensive investigation into the safety tests of the car brand, which is part of Toyota.

According to that investigation, Daihatsu cheated on safety tests in the production of many more cars. Researchers found 174 irregularities in 25 different tests. This involved 64 models from the brands Daihatsu, Toyota, Mazda and Subaru.

Parent company Toyota apologizes in a statement for the inconvenience this situation has caused. The company will hold a press conference later on Wednesday.

Daihatsu is not a major car brand in Europe. The brand sold more than 1.7 million cars worldwide in 2022.
